The American Studies Program has the unique ability to take learning outside of the classroom for our Majors. Throughout the year we take different excursions around the Chicagoland area where students can learn and experience American Studies in a hands on way. This year we were even able to reinstate our travel outside of Chicago with our first post-covid trip to New Orleans where a cohort was able to follow in the footsteps of Clint Smith (One Book One Northwestern author) during his research for How the Word Is Passed. These experiences provide an invaluable experience for the Majors and solidifies the cohort relationships as well.
