American Studies Takes Over Detroit
in January a groupp of majors, along with Professor Bruner and Carlos Ballinas, took the train to Detroit for a weekend trip. The students visited the Heidelberg Project, an outdoor art installation in the McDougall-Hunt neighborhood on Detroit’s east side. Then they dined at Baobab Fare, an award-winning restaurant that brings vibrant flavors of East Africa to the city. The following day, they explored the Ford Museum, where they saw Henry Ford’s vast collection of American history artifacts, and the Detroit Institute of Arts, home to Diego Rivera’s iconic Detroit Industry murals. They also had the chance to eat at the original Detroit pizza restaurant, Buddy’s. This trip offered an enriching blend of art, history, and culture, giving students a deeper appreciation for Detroit’s diverse and dynamic history.
